Developing motivated learners.

When children engage deeply in activities of their own choice, they develop as motivated learners and active contributors to the world around them.

Engagement is about creating the conditions for children to discover new interests, form new connections, immerse themselves in dynamic challenges, and have “wonderful ideas.”

At LA’s BEST, our program is designed to engage children intellectually, creatively, physically and socially — through fun activities; academic support; STEM and creative expression; team sports and performances; and meaningful relationships with caring adults. Through engagement children develop as motivated learners and active contributors to the world around them.

“. . . one can familiarize children with a few phenomena in such a way as to catch their interest, to let them raise and answer their own questions, to let them realize that their ideas are significant — so that they have the interest, the ability, and the self-confidence to go on by themselves.”
– Renowned educator Eleanor Duckworth from her essay “The Having of Wonderful Ideas"
Discovering new interests, forming new connections.

Preparing children to be tomorrow's problem-solvers.

That child will carry forward the confidence and sense of purpose — and joy — they attained through being truly absorbed in an activity or problem.

And one day, in part as a result of the kind of deep engagement and support they received at LA’s BEST, they will be more likely to think creatively enough to solve the complex problems of tomorrow.
