Moving bodies, building balance
BEST Fit helps students build healthy habits in a way that feels joyful and empowering. Physical activity, nutrition, and mindfulness are at the heart of this department, with programs that are accessible, inclusive, and centered around student experience.
Students stretch and move through yoga, express themselves in BEST Feet Dancing, and play non-competitive games that support physical development and teamwork. In programs like Happy Healthy Me and Small Bites, students learn how to make healthy food choices and explore new flavors. They grow food and flowers in Native Gardens while learning about ecosystems and sustainability.
The Family Health Fair brings students and families together to celebrate health through fun, interactive stations. BEST Fit is not just about movement. It is about helping students feel confident in their bodies, aware of their wellness, and connected to each other.
“EVERYTHING WE DO AT LA’S BEST HELPS TO PLANT SEEDS.”
Our school gardens are rooted in nutrition education. They have expanded into outdoor learning centers which provide opportunities for connection and cultivation of the whole child. We began our garden program by building simple 4x4x1 foot high planter boxes as a means to teach the students about seeds, parts of plants and the cultivation process.
When our kids witness the growth process from start to finish, they develop a sense of pride and understanding of the food they grew from seed, as well as an appreciation for the nutritional benefits.
