Art
From painting with watercolors to producing music in Soundtrap or snapping photos in Photo LAB Explorers, students at LA’s BEST build both technical skills and confidence while creating projects they’re proud to share. Arts programs are hands-on, inclusive, and designed to spark imagination and joy.
- Watercolors and Pastels 101 (Grades UTK–6) Students explore the basics of painting, including color, value, technique, and seeing as an artist.
- Photo LAB Explorers (Grades 2–6) A new program where students learn digital photography, use props, and create collages, celebrating creativity through the lens.
- Creative Mentorship Program (Grades UTK–6) Site staff can schedule a one-day session with our Arts Team to receive activity booklets and brainstorm ways to implement one-time art projects with students.
- Mural Collective (Grades 1–6) In this new program, students collaborate with local artists to conceptualize, sketch, and paint murals at their school sites.
- Local Teaching Artist Residencies & Assemblies (Grades UTK–6) We partner with local arts organizations to bring professional visual and performing arts experiences to school sites.
- Assemblies highlight jazz, storytelling, and cultural performances from across LA.
- Residencies span 5–10 weeks and include hip-hop dance, theater, pottery, drum/guitar lessons, folklorico, and more.
Student Story Spotlight
Last year alone, our arts programming reached over 800 students through residencies and more than 4,000 students through assemblies.
At LA’s BEST, the arts aren’t just enrichment, they’re a foundation for self-expression, confidence, and community connection.
