2026-2027 LA’s BEST Expanded Learning Program
Parent/Legal Guardian Agreement
At LA's BEST, our goal is to create environments where young people can explore their interests and talents, develop skills to successfully navigate today's world, and grow into their fullest, most authentic selves. We encourage you to review the safety practices, policies, and procedures outlined in the LAUSD Parent-Student Handbook provided by LAUSD. In addition, the LA's BEST Parent/Legal Guardian Agreement highlights key policies and procedures that help maintain a safe and supportive campus environment.
LA's BEST Application:
Each child must have a current signed application on file listing at least three authorized adults (18+) for pickup. Students will only be released to those listed. Updates must be made in person by a parent or legal guardian.
Parent/Legal Guardian Engagement:
Quarterly parent/legal guardian meetings will be scheduled. These meetings will provide space to connect with staff and receive programmatic updates. LA's BEST is committed to supporting families—please connect in person with your Site Coordinator/Site Lead or Area Program Supervisor for any questions or support.
Program Hours:
Afterschool: Hours are from school dismissal to 6:00 p.m. Students are encouraged to attend for the duration of the program.
Before School: Hours are from 6:30 a.m. to school start. Students are encouraged to attend for the duration of the program.
Student Sign In & Out:
Students are signed in daily by staff and must go directly to the designated sign-in area after school. At dismissal, students must be signed out by a parent/guardian or authorized adult (18+) listed on the application. Valid ID may be required, and students will not be released to anyone under 18 years of age or not listed on the application.
Afterschool: Each year, parents/guardians must complete an Early Release Policy Acknowledgment for each enrolled child. If a child is picked up before 6:00 p.m., the authorized adult must select an early release code to indicate the reason.
Before School: Each year, parents/guardians must complete a Late Arrival Policy Acknowledgment for each child. If a child arrives more than 45 minutes after the program starts, the authorized adult must select a late arrival code indicating the reason.
Students will not be released if:
- The adult poses a safety risk to anyone on campus.
- Person is not an authorized adult listed on the application and/or is under the age of 18.
- A court order restricts release (Court orders must be on file with the school and LA's BEST).
Visitors To School Campuses and Locked Campuses:
Follow District-wide behavior expectations. LA's BEST follows all LAUSD behavior policies and procedures.
Visitors DO NOT have the right to:
- Intentionally disrupt or interfere with school activities, or cause harm to people or property.
- Disrupt instruction, extracurricular activities, or normal school operations.
Student Attendance and Attendance Records:
LA's BEST is funded through ASES, 21st CCLC programs, and/or ELOP which require specific attendance guidelines. To receive the full benefit, students are encouraged to attend daily for the duration of the program. Please notify the Site Coordinator/Site Lead if your child will be absent.
- Children absent from the regular school day may not attend LA's BEST that day.
Health and Wellness:
Parents/guardians will be notified if a child becomes ill and must arrange for pickup by an authorized adult.
Parents/guardians must list any food allergies or medical conditions on the application that might affect their child's participation in the program. Staff may not administer medication unless authorized and trained by LAUSD.
Student Code of Conduct:
Students are supported in learning and practicing expected behaviors through the District's Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) framework. LA's BEST follows all LAUSD discipline policies outlined in the Parent/Student Handbook. If needed, breaks from the program will be determined in collaboration with the school administrator and LA's BEST Operations.
Students should not bring valuable items (e.g., phones, tablets, laptops, gaming devices, jewelry). They may be lost, stolen, or damaged and can be distracting. The District is not responsible for these items.
