Digital Learning
The Digital Learning department helps students see themselves as creators, problem solvers, and innovators. Through hands-on, tech-based learning, students explore skills that will serve them far beyond elementary school.
Connecting students to the future
They build robots with LEGO SPIKE, direct films in AIM Studios, and design their own cities in Minecraft. Younger students begin coding with Sphero Indi and circuits with LittleBits.
Many of our students do not have access to these tools outside of LA’s BEST. By introducing them to technology in engaging and meaningful ways, we help them feel confident in digital spaces and excited about their future possibilities.
The Digital Learning Department provides innovative, hands-on S.T.E.A.M.- based programs to elementary students across our afterschool sites.
Programs Include:
AIM (3-5)
AIM, or Art in Motion, is a filmmaking program that empowers students to write, shoot, and edit their own short films while learning the mechanics of storytelling and production.
Droids (3–5)
Designed for grades 3–5, this robotics and coding program utilizes LEGO SPIKE kits, challenging students to build and code robots. We proudly host local robotics tournaments and awards ceremonies at 18 sites across Los Angeles.
indi (K–2)
A foundational coding program designed for younger students using Sphero indi cars. indi offers flexible learning as a screen-free or iPad-compatible activity, helping students explore logic and problem-solving at an early age.
littleBits (2–5)
A hands-on circuitry program that combines littleBits kits with found materials from students’ environments to inspire invention and innovation. This program encourages creativity, collaboration, and real-world problem-solving.
Our Role in LA’s BEST
As the Digital Learning Department, our role is to be facilitators of innovation, creativity, and growth. We design and implement engaging, hands-on S.T.E.A.M. programming that supports students in developing skills that extend far beyond the classroom.
Our team works closely with staff at each site to provide training, guidance, and ongoing support. From maintaining and troubleshooting digital tools to mentoring staff and students through the creative and technical process, we ensure every student has the resources and encouragement they need to succeed. Digital Learning offers enhanced programming to inspire curiosity, support learning, and create pathways for students to explore futures in technology, media, and beyond.
