Participate in the virtual California Afterschool & Summer Challenge March 15 & 16, 2022! Advocate with us to improve the lives of children, families and communities served by LA’s BEST and afterschool programs across the state.

What is the Challenge? The Challenge is an annual advocacy event that brings together hundreds of afterschool staff, families, students and supporters from across California to meet with legislative offices and share their stories of why afterschool and summer programming for youth matters.

Why participate in the Challenge? LA’s BEST relies on state funding to operate our program, making it important that our state legislators understand the impact of our program on children, families and communities. Your voice matters – elected officials want to hear directly from people who see the benefit of afterschool. You don’t need prior advocacy experience or knowledge to attend – only a willingness to share why LA’s BEST matters to you!

This year’s Challenge will be fully virtual.

  • Tuesday, March 15 (9:30 am – 2:30 pm): Join our rally with partners from across the state to build momentum, and meet with our team to get trained and prepare for legislative meetings.
  • Wednesday, March 16 (10 am – 4 pm): Meet with legislative offices to advocate for afterschool! Please note that you will likely have 3-4 meetings, taking less than 2 hours total, however we ask you to hold the full day until meeting schedules are confirmed. As needed, we can do our best to work around your availability.
