Participate in the California Afterschool & Summer Challenge on March 14, 2023 in Sacramento! Advocate with us to improve the lives of children, families and communities served by LA’s BEST and afterschool programs across the state.

We will gather in-person in Sacramento on March 14, 9:00am-4:00pm for a march, rally, and legislative visits. Preparation for the event will take place online, March 9, 9:00am-12:00pm.

What is the Challenge? The Challenge is an annual advocacy event that brings together hundreds of afterschool staff, families, students and supporters from across California to meet with legislative offices and share their stories of why afterschool and summer programming for youth matters.

Why participate in the Challenge? LA’s BEST relies on state funding to operate our program, making it important that our state legislators understand the impact of our program on children, families and communities. Your voice matters – elected officials want to hear directly from people who see the benefit of afterschool. You don’t need prior advocacy experience or knowledge to attend – only a willingness to share why LA’s BEST matters to you!

For more information from CalSac, who is organizing The Challenge, click here. If selected to participate, all event and travel costs will be covered by LA’s BEST.

If you are interested in attending the Challenge, please contact Laura at Laura.Beebe@lacity.org.

If you can’t attend in person your voice still has influence! Please send us a quote and/or a one to two-minute video to Laura.Beebe@lacity.org.

Thank you for your continued support of LA’s BEST!
