Dr. Tyrone C. Howard
Professor, UCLA School of Education and Information Studies Faculty Director, UCLA Center for the Transformation of Schools
Dr. Tyrone C. Howard is a Professor of Education in the School of Education and Information Studies at UCLA and serves as the Director of the UCLA Pritzker Center for Strengthening Children and Families. The center is a campus-wide consortium focused on examining the academic, mental health, and social-emotional experiences of California’s most vulnerable youth populations. His research explores issues related to race, culture, access, and educational opportunity for historically marginalized students.
Over the course of his career, Dr. Howard has published more than 75 peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, and technical reports. He is the author of several bestselling books, including Why Race & Culture Matters in Schools and All Students Must Thrive. A native of Compton, California, he previously served as a classroom teacher in the community. Dr. Howard is a member of the National Academy of Education and an AERA Fellow.
