The historic Alex Theatre in Glendale, California, served as the spectacular backdrop for the AIM Studios premiere. The event brought together 76 talented students and 60 guests for a cinematic showcase of nine original student films. Beyond the screenings, these young creators were honored with a high-profile red-carpet experience, a catered reception, and an inspiring awards ceremony to conclude the afternoon. This collaboration was made possible through a generous in-kind donation from the Alex Theatre, providing LA’s BEST students a professional platform to celebrate their creativity, dedication, and growing passion for the art of cinema.
Students in grades 3-5 became filmmakers over the course of 6 months through the AIM Studios program. While participating, they learned the craft of scriptwriting, filming, and editing their five – to seven – minute film. Their knowledge of the five phases of the film industry has broaden to highlight career possibilities they were previously unaware of.
AIM Studios (Art in Motion) is a comprehensive filmmaking program designed for elementary students. Running from January through June, the curriculum guides students through the intricacies of storytelling and technical production as they write, film, and edit their own short films. As a cornerstone of LA’s BEST’s Digital Learning Department, the program empowers students to harness technology as a powerful tool for creativity, problem-solving, and real-world application. Through immersive experiences in coding, robotics, digital media, and circuitry, students explore fundamental STEAM concepts while developing essential digital literacy for the future.
