LA's BEST propels success in middle school

LA's BEST propels success in middle school

Did you know that the longer students attend LA’s BEST, the larger their gains in math, language arts, science and history in middle school? An exciting new study from CRESST/UCLA shows that positive results from LA's BEST continue beyond students' years of participation in elementary school.  LA's BEST provides after school enrichment for students between the ages of 5 and 12, but the benefits of the program are now shown to persist through middle school.  Among the findings of the study are:

-         Students who attend LA’s BEST 140 days or more were more likely to take both semesters of Algebra in middle school

-         LA’s BEST students show higher GPA’s in math, algebra, science and history in middle school

-         LA’s BEST students demonstrated higher California Standardized Test (CST) scores in general math and algebra
