LA's BEST — Better Educated Students for Tomorrow — is a nationally recognized after school education, enrichment and recreation program serving more than 26,000 children with the greatest needs and fewest resources throughout the City of Los Angeles. LA's BEST After School Enrichment Program provides a safe haven for children, ages 5 to 12, at 180 elementary school sites each day during the critical hours after school — at no cost to parents. Established in 1988, LA's BEST is a partnership including the City of Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Unified School District and the private sector.
LA’s BEST Students and Scholastic News
Thanks to the generosity of longtime LA’s BEST supporter Lynne Wasserman and The Wasserman Foundation, this spring LA’s BEST students began receiving a year-long subscription to Scholastic News. Each student will receive his or her own magazine to take home and keep each month. The magazines, which are tailored to grade level and published in bilingual Spanish-English editions for the lower grades, are intended to spark children’s interest in reading for fun. One LA’s BEST student was so thankful to receive Scholastic News and said, “I always keep them in my backpack because I read them over and over again!” Thank you, Lynne Wasserman, on behalf of the 27,000 students at LA’s BEST!
