Being a part of the LA’s BEST family has helped me grow and build connections with staff, students, school administrators and other Los Angeles community members. I have been working at LA’s BEST for nine years and have worked my way up to being a Site Coordinator. As a Site Coordinator, I’ve had the opportunity to gain hands-on leadership experience that helps me pursue my future career endeavors.
LA’s BEST has prepared me for a promising career in special education. As a Site Coordinator, I collaborate with site staff and school administrators to bring our students the best opportunities possible.
During my work day, I get to interact with parents and find ways to connect with them while also supporting kids in my community. These day-to-day experiences help me understand the needs of the community I am serving and are important for the next stage in my career. I can’t wait to implement what I have learned!
Right before summer, I participated in Summerland, which is an immersive, all-day workshop where staff gain experience creating learning objectives and lesson plans while sharing their ideas with fellow staff members. This was unique and taught me leadership skills such as collaboration, coming up with creative solutions and building relationships. I love that I planned activities with other staff because we expanded our knowledge of different subjects and put ourselves in the students’ shoes.
I am excited to graduate college with my bachelors degree and continue my education by pursuing a master’s degree in special education. I have fun doing my job and appreciate the time I spend learning and fine-tuning my leadership skills while working with kids from my own community. It fills me with gratitude and eagerness to fulfill my dreams and goals while working in such a motivating and inspiring environment.
